Twilight’s New Moon Rakes In $140 Million Over The Weekend

Twilight: New Moon raked in $140 million over the weekend, the only other movies that had bigger opening weekends was The Dark Knight and Spiderman 3. What’s crazy is New Moon made $5 million more than The Dark Knight on it’s opening day, thankfully it’s ticket sales then slowed.

Other movies that were brave enough to open this weekend were The Blind Side which earned $34.5 million and Planet 51 which made $12.6 million. Looks like vampire mania swept through the US this weekend leaving other movies in the dust.

I for one am glad that New Moon’s opening weekend has finally come and is just about over, now we just have to get through at least two more movies then hopefully Twilight craziness will die down.

Here’s a look at estimated weekend ticket sales according to Box Office Mojo:

1. Twilight: New Moon: $140 million

2. The Blind Side: $34.5 million

3. 2012: $26.5 million

4. Planet 51: $12.6 million

5. A Christmas Carol: $12.2 million

6. Precious: $11 million

7. The Men Who Stare at Goats: $2.7 million

8. Couples Retreat: $1.9 million

9. The Fourth Kind: $1.7 million

10. Law Abiding Citizen: $1.6 million

Here’s A Look At Angelina Jolie’s Salt Movie Poster

Here’s an up close look at Angelina Jolie’s face on her latest movie Salt’s movie poster. In the movie she plays a CIA officer on the run after being accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. Tom Cruise was originally suppose to star in the movie, but passed on the film and the lead role was changed to a female. Angelina was recruited, which I think was a good move.

Below is a sneak peak at the movie:

2012 Tops Weekend Box Office

The movie 2012 raked in $65 million on it’s debut weekend putting it ahead of A Christmas Carol and The Men Who Stare at Goats. Looks like everyone was looking forward to watching an action packed movie instead of the usual scary or animated movies.

The little movie that could, Precious, landed in the number four spot earning another $6 million bringing it’s total to $8.9 million, while Michael Jackson’s This Is It still remained in the top ten earning $5.1 million. I have a feeling both movies are not done yet either.

I don’t know why but when I saw the preview for The Men Who Stare at Goats I immediately wanted to see it, I think I’m the only one out of all my friends that actually thinks it looks pretty funny. It can’t be that bad it’s still number 3 it’s second weekend at the theaters.

Here’s a look at estimated ticket sales over the weekend according to Box Office Mojo:

1. 2012: $65.0 million

2.  A Christmas Carol: $22.3 million

3. The Men Who Stare at Goats: $6.2 million

4. Precious: $6.0 million

5. Michael Jackson’s This Is It: $5.1 million

6. The Fourth Kind: $4.7 million

7. Couples Retreat: $4.2 million

8. Paranormal Activity: $4.2 million

9. Law Abiding Citizen: $3.9 million

10. The Box: $3.1 million

A Christmas Carol Tops Weekend Box Office

Jim Carrey’s A Christmas Carol was number one at the box office this weekend earning $31 million. I’m not surprised that of all the movies to debut this weekend this one topped them all. The Men Who Star at Goats took the number 3 spot, while The Fourth Kind landed in number 4, and The Box had some what of a disapointing opening weekend taking the number 6 spot.

One moving still holding on is Paranormal Activity, which made another $8.6 million, bringing it’s total earnings to $97.4 million. Another low budget movie called Precious, which has been promoted by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, earned $1.8 million on it’s opening weekend and was released in only 18 locations. Not too shabby.

Here’s a look at estimated ticket sales over the weekend according to Box Office Mojo:

1. A Christmas Carol: $31.0 million

2. Michael Jackson’s This Is It: $14.0 million

3. The Men Who Stare at Goats: $13.3 million

4. The Fourth Kind: $12.5 million

5. Paranormal Activity: $8.6 million

6. The Box: $7.8 million

7. Couples Retreat: $6.4 million

8. Law Abiding Citizen: $6.1 million

9. Where The Wild Things Are: $4.2 million

10. Astro Boy: $2.5 million

Justin Timberlake To Play Yogi Bear’s Sidekick

Justin Timbelake will be playing Yogi Bear’s side kick BooBoo in the upcoming movie based on Yellowstone’s favorite goofy bear. Filming is set to begin next month in New Zealand and Dan Aykroyd will be the voice of Yogi.

Sorry, but I think they should have recruited Seth Macfarlane for the voice of Yogi. He does an awesome job on Family Guy and his voice is closer to the original character’s voice anyway.

The Stars Step Out For Michael Jackson’s This Is It Premiere

It’s not surprising that a tone of star power including Will Smith, Paula Abdul, J-Lo, and many more stepped out last night in LA to attend Michael Jackson’s This Is It premiere. This movie had already sold out in many theaters across the nation and is expected to draw in big bucks.

RIP Michael Jackson.

Paranormal Activity Tops Weekend Box Office

A low budget film beat out Saw VI this weekend at the box office earning $22.0 million. Paranormal Activity seems to be taking theaters by storm, so far it’s grand total earnings is $62.5 million thanks to word of mouth and Internet buzz.

One movie that had a terrible opening weekend was Amelia, staring Hilary Swank. It landed in the number 11 spot earning a mere $4.0 million, just goes to show the Horror films and kiddie movies are ruling the theaters at the moment.

Where the Wild Things Are fell to number three this past weekend bringing it’s total to $53.9 million. I have to admit I can’t wait to take my kids to see this one before it leaves theaters, it’s one you have to see at the theater.

Here’s a look at estimated ticket sales over the weekend according to Box Office Mojo:

1. Paranormal Activity: $22.0 million

2. Saw VI: $14.8 million

3. Where The Wild Things Are: $14.4 million

4. Law Abiding Citizen: $12.7 million

5. Couples Retreat: $11.0 million

6. Astro Boy: $7.0 million

7. The Stepfather $6.5 million

8. Cirque de Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant: $6.3 million

9. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs: $5.6 million

10. Zombieland: $4.3 million
