U2’s frontman Bono sings high praises for guitarist The Edge and calls him the most influential guitarist since Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and The Who’s Pete Townshend in an email to Rolling Stone magazine, according to Female First.

Bono wrote:

“Edge’s genuine genius developing on the blank and bleached photographic paper avoiding all the obvious blues scales that blind every other guitar player that ever heard Led Zeppelin. The Edge finds some new colours for the spectrum of rock. You sense an emotional color temperature that is unique to him… it’s his palette we’re painting from. Surely this is the most influential guitarist since the great composers Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Neil Young but remember he doesn’t have the history of the blues to plumb, these are unchartered waters.”

I agree - The Edge has a very unique style.

Bono also mentioned U2’s next album, confirming they’re nearly finished with their most “complete and radical album yet.”

I can’t wait for what’s in store for us.

I’m not sure if I believe this, but reports suggest that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have asked Bono to be the godfather of their twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. The couple is said to be impressed with his humanitarian work and that they’re delighted U2’s frontman accepted the role, according to the Mirror (via Contact Music). A source said:

“Brad and Angie think the world of Bono. They have been friends for years. Brad is a massive U2 fan and told Bono how much he admired him when they were introduced at a party a few years back. Since then, they’ve become very close, which Brad is thrilled about. Angelina is inspired by Bono’s humanitarian work and gets on with his wife Ali Hewson.”

Angie’s ex-lover Jenny Shimizu was allegedly asked to be godmother to the twins.

If they did in fact ask Bono, who would blame them if they’re friends? He’ll be great role model for the twins. It also sounds like Angie’s still really good friends with Jenny, so that part is believable.

U2’s frontman Bono has reportedly offered some high praise for Radiohead in a heartfelt letter to NME.

Bono acknowledges Radiohead’s brilliance when the band tried out the pay-what-you-want experiment for downloads of their last album “In Rainbows.” He calls the sales technique “courageous and imaginative”, adding it helped rockers “figure out some new relationship with their audience.”

Although U2’s manager Paul McGuinness publicly criticized Radiohead for it, Bono feels the opposite and wrote:

“We feel blessed to be around at the same time (as Radiohead).”

From one great band to another…that was pretty cool from Bono to validate their actions!

Bono is known for his charity work, but now it looks like he is going a bit further by collaborating with the Spice girls. According to the Daily Mirror, Bono has written a brand new song for the reuniting Spice Girls and will be included in their upcoming greatest hits album which will also be performed during their world tour.

The album could be released as early as November 5th. And a source explains:

“It might seem unusual with the Spice Girls’ pop roots and the much more rockier work of Bono, but it works. There’s been a bit of unease as to how the album will perform and if there’s still a solid Spice Girls’ fanbase out there. However Bono’s involvement has lifted the whole camp and he’s delighted to have been asked and add his experience.”

It’s all still a bit secretive at the moment though with the name of the song a closely-guarded secret:

“Bono is a brilliant musician and is up for the challenge and can pull off any sort of musical style. Expect the unexpected.”

All I can say is that I’m in shock. Bono does love to give of himself and help the needy, but this is way out there. I guess we’ll have to see what the message is in the song.
