2012 Tops Weekend Box Office

The movie 2012 raked in $65 million on it’s debut weekend putting it ahead of A Christmas Carol and The Men Who Stare at Goats. Looks like everyone was looking forward to watching an action packed movie instead of the usual scary or animated movies.

The little movie that could, Precious, landed in the number four spot earning another $6 million bringing it’s total to $8.9 million, while Michael Jackson’s This Is It still remained in the top ten earning $5.1 million. I have a feeling both movies are not done yet either.

I don’t know why but when I saw the preview for The Men Who Stare at Goats I immediately wanted to see it, I think I’m the only one out of all my friends that actually thinks it looks pretty funny. It can’t be that bad it’s still number 3 it’s second weekend at the theaters.

Here’s a look at estimated ticket sales over the weekend according to Box Office Mojo:

1. 2012: $65.0 million

2.  A Christmas Carol: $22.3 million

3. The Men Who Stare at Goats: $6.2 million

4. Precious: $6.0 million

5. Michael Jackson’s This Is It: $5.1 million

7. Couples Retreat: $4.2 million

8. Paranormal Activity: $4.2 million

9. Law Abiding Citizen: $3.9 million

10. The Box: $3.1 million
