Elton John Too Old to Adopt
Elton John and his partner David Furnish are unable to adopt Lev, the child he fell in love with in the Ukraine. Now magazine reports that Elton was told by the Ukrainian Minister that he’s too old at the age of 62. Ukraine Family Minister Yuriy Pavlenko said:
“Foreign citizens who are single have no right to adopt children. And the age difference between the adopter and the child cannot be more than 45 years.
The law is the same for everybody: for a president, for a minister, for Elton John.”
After visiting an orphanage for children with HIV-positive parents, Elton revealed that he connected with 14-month-old Lev:
“Having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him,’ Elton told reporters at a news conference in the Ukraine. ‘I don’t know how to do that but he has stolen my heart.”
My heart goes out to Elton. It’s easy to fall in love with babies and toddlers. Elton may have aged out of most international adoption program, however, if he’s still interested in adoption, he should look into domestic and private adoption.

Elton and David can certainly give a great life to any child….and what a life an HIV-positive child would have…….that Ukranian Minister is an ASS

and I think Elton will be fine, it’s the kid who might loose an adopted parent at early age who may suffer. Elton is a big boy now. he’ll live. trust me.
actually I applaud this gentleman for sticking to the rules. He’s right. it is really not a good move for them to turn over a child to a parent who is 60 years holder than the child. And it is awesome that unlike some countries, they will not bend just because someone is a celebrity.
Looking at John I can see where there is concern, he’s not a fit and trim man even from a look. Maybe he’s in prime health, made he is not. this is something that has to be considered before you have a child taken out of the country and then in as little as a year, is an orphan again.
the slam against foreigners is not nice but that’s neither here or there compared to the age issue. it actually surprises me that they didn’t have David as the front man on this gig. he is only about 45 so that rule wouldn’t be an issue.
I completely agree with Lucas, although it’s got to be tough for Elton and David, he is way to old to have a child in his home. He’ll be lucky to be alive when his child graduates college!
