American Idol Season 8 Top 11 Review and Predictions

The American Idol Top 11 performed country this week with special guest/mentor Randy Travis. Ugh. Not my favorite week, but here is my review of the performances and prediction of who’ll get the boot:
- Michael Sarver - This genre seems to fit his image and his voice best, but the performance was still a little forgettable.
- Allison Iraheta - I’m so impressed with her being only 16. She sings great. I didn’t care for the song, but she did well.
- Kris Allen - nice vocal performance for him. Slow ballads seem to work for him.
- Lil Rounds - She has such a powerful voice, but it’s unfortunate that she seemed a little out of her element tonight.
- Adam Lambert - For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been annoyed by his voice, but I’m a fan now! The guy had balls to take a Johnny Cash classic, “Ring of Fire” and sing a Middle Eastern version of it. People watching would either have loved it or hated it and I LOVED it! Very artistic!
- Scott McIntyre - I like Scott because he seems like a nice guy who has a nice voice and plays the piano well. The only thing is, all of the songs he picks are songs that would put me to sleep! He did okay, but it was the same as the last two weeks. Boring.
- Alexis Grace - mediocre performance of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” - it wasn’t bad at all…just nothing very interesting about it.
- Danny Gokey - the beginning of his performance was kinda boring, but he wowed everyone in the last half. He’s still my fave because I love his voice.
- Anoop Desai - Glad he didn’t get the boot last week. Anoop sang a beautiful version of Willie Nelson’s classic “Always on My Mind.”
- Megan Joy Corkery - Given the fact that she’s sick with the flu, she did very well tonight. The song really fit her voice too so it was cute.
- Matt Giraud - Didn’t really care for the Carrie Underwood song, but he sang it well. I agree with the judges feedback, he was one of the best tonight.
Prediction of the Idol wannabe who’ll get the boot:
- Scott McIntyre

omg. adam lambert is so freaking awesome. besides his looks, hes an amazing singer. i truly believe he will make it to the top. hes like best in the whole compition.
Adam leads the pack from DAY 1 by at least a mile. It’s not really just to compare him with the amateurs.
A toss between Lil Rounds and Allison Iraheta for the other finalists in the top 2.
So far my predictions for the top 2 is always right.
I don’t like Anoop Desai, Allison Iraheta and Matt Giraud. They are so boring! I love Megan Joy, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert.
I thought Adam’s version of Ring of Fire was atrocious! I’m sick of his overly theatrical performances. He has a good voice which I think would stand on it’s own without all the drama inflected into his performances. Love Allison Iraheta and do not like Megan Joy though I give her credit for her performance while she has the flu. I love Scott, but he just doesn’t have the strong vocals to carry him through.
Adam’s Ring of Fire was CREEPY…
Lil is SO out in front…and I’m not a fan of R&B…even though it wasn’t her forte, and perhaps out of her element, her magnificent voice still makes my heart sing along with her. She needed someone to check her dress, however. Megan Joy pulled off a sultry performance, flu notwithstanding, and I thought her dress was great and adequately quirky.
Adam is so freaking awesome. He’s been my fave since his first audition. I also think that Danny, Allison, and Lil are good.
I personally like Adam’s theatrical-ness. Probably because I adore theatre, and love acting.
I think Lambert is and was brilliant vocal wise in that song… The middle-eastern twang went perfect with the voice as well… His voice is natually higher so singing it totally country wouldn’t have done him any justice… Least this way, he keeps to his true self which is sometimes what I feel Lil should have done to a degree… There was plenty of country songs with an R&B feel… His theatrics is what I would think would bring people to a show… Why would you pay to see someone that was boring or just stood still playing the music you can simply save your ticket money and just listen to on radio?
Adam reminds me of a young Elvis. He takes risks and doesn’t mind the criticism. Danny Gokey sings with his heart and I love his story. He’s an inspiration! Megan Joy is the one to watch because she’s easy on the eyes. Hey, like it or not she (Megan) has movie star good looks.
Adam Lambert is the real deal!! Vocal stylings that recall Freddie Mercury, Geoff Tate and Sam Smith elevate his songs to otherwordly status. Danny can sing well, but nothing interesting. He will probably win though. Megan IS obviously easy on the eyes but the fact remains that she doesnt sing very well, flu or not. Cover up the ink on her arm and put her on TV. Lil Rounds can sing of course, but we’ve heard it done a million and 1 times before, and better. Scott, Michael and Kris shouldn’t even be here; decent karaoke singers. For being only 16, Allison seems like a sesoned pro in her stage presentation, but should invest in singing lessons to heighten her vocal rang capability. It would allow her to do more with the songs she chooses and help her as an artist. Anoop is a pleasant enough singer but ultimately boring. Matt, who looks like Michael Buble obviously has that going for him (girls will like that) seems like a lounge act to me. I’m aware that he will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for my money no one besides Adam would hold my interest for a complete concert.
I love Scott, especially the download of wild angels. Listen to it, it’s beautiful! Not sure how far he’ll go, but I think he has a stronger following than we realize, due to his life story (kidney transplant 18 months ago and all…). I hated ring of fire, but admit Adam has an amazing voice. I think he’s just too “out there” to win it all. Danny is not that special to me…sounds like a dozen worship leaders I’ve heard at various churches. I like chris.. Not sure why, but liked his ballad last week. Megan is adorable and has no vocal range and a single limited style…you’re right, she’d do well on TV. I love Lil too, very talented.
America so got it right by giving Alexis the boot. Whoever said she was top 4 material is deaf..Not only was she a mediocre singer but obnoxious and unlikeable. The girls this season are plain awful. Lil and Allison are decent but no “star quality.” BORING!!! Megan can’t sing but she’s interesting. You know this show isn’t looking for the best singers just entertainment because I can walk into any audition for any show in and around my town and find girls more talented than their girls. If out of a hundred thousand that is the best female talent, we are in trouble, America. Love the guys though!! Big fan of Adam, Danny, Matt & Kris! Now they are talented!!
