Jack Bruce Slams Led Zeppelin
This is pretty shocking to me. Jack Bruce from the legendary band Cream has reportedly slammed Led Zeppelin. Contact Music reports when Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce reunited to tour, performing in London and New York in 2005, Bruce thinks that their shows were long forgotten after Led Zeppelin reunited for their show in December 2007. Bruce doesn’t understand the fuss over Led Zeppelin:
“F**k off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one f**king gig, one f**king lame gig, while Cream did weeks of gigs. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is.”
However, Bruce admitted:
“The thing about Zeppelin is that obviously it’s a little bit of jealousy on my part… because the audience was created by Cream and Jimi Hendrix, this sort of very large audience. Then Zeppelin came along and had a very easy ride in that way. We were the pioneers and pioneers don’t always get the recognition they deserve.”
Just to prove he wasn’t done slamming Zeppelin, he added:
“Let’s face it, Jimmy Page ain’t no Eric Clapton, no matter what anybody thinks.”
Wow…jealousy is not becoming of him. It sounds like he’s just a grumpy old man now. Why can’t he just keep these comments to himself, even if he’s thinking it? While it’s true that pioneers don’t always get the recognition they deserve and Cream definitely deserves it, how can anyone slam Zeppelin like this?

Jack - you must be trippin’ - CREAM gets all the regognition in the world and if you guys had stayed together more than 2 years you would have given them a run for their money but you didn’t.

Cream wasn’t even better than Pages band before Zep…the Yardbirds.
Memo to Jack Bruce, Jimmy Page’s playing as sloppy as it can be has always been more exciting than Clapton’s. At least Jimmy takes chances. Eric’s been playing the same regurgitated blues lick’s over and over ever since Cream broke up. I’d go see Page 20 times before I’d see Clapton once. Fuck you Jack Bruce.
Give me Zeppelin everytime….Even if Clapton was technically a better player than page(and jeff beck is probably technically better than both) the fact is Page used his talent to write the better riffs, better songs and produce the better albums.

actually anthony top topham was the first lead guiarist of the Yardbirds then Clapton, then Jef Beck and finaly Jimmy Page. Yes the Yardbirds had Claptin, Beck and Page in them. Beck and Page at the same time for a bit.
We could argue for years over which band was better…which guitarist was better…who stole what from whom, couldn’t we? In many cases, it’s simply a matter of taste or opinion…
However, when I mentioned this story around the office (which just so happens to be a classic rock radio station), 3 people actually asked, “Who the %&$# is Jack Bruce?” Not exactly a house-hold name, is it?
Get a pencil and write this down, Jack: With or without the support of critics or the press, Zeppelin has always been in an extremely elite class when it comes to generating interest in themselves. Call it “hype” if you want to, but 40 years later, people still pay attention to Zeppelin.
Add “Marketing” to the substantial list of things that Pagey does better than Clapton.
When I read about Jack’s comments, I really thought he must be doing chemicals. Cream was good, but in no manor, fashion or form anywhere near the talent of the Almighty Zep. Jimmy was a better all around guitarist; musician; performer and producer that Clapton; Bonham was the heaviest drummer the world has seen; No one sings like Plant, and JPJ was a far better bassist than Bruce. I saw Clapton several times and he’s just so dull - the same old since the 60s. But every Zep song is fresh and varied and far better! Bruce, always cocky as hell, needs reality and humility as first gift.
