Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops Dies at 72

This is sad news to report today. Levi Stubbs, who Billboard.com calls, “arguably the most powerful voice in Motown’s storied history” has died at age 72. The Four Tops lead singer had been battling illnesses, including cancer and a stroke, that forced him to end performing in 2000 and died at his home in Detroit today, October 17, 2008. Motown Alumni Association’s Billy J. Wilson said:
“He had one of the most prolific and identifiably voices in American history. It’s a deep loss, to the entire Motown family and to the world.”
Now, Abdul “Duke” Fakir remains as the only Four Tops’ original surviving member. I met Duke a couple years ago when I saw the Four Tops in concert.

Duke was full of energy, charm, and humor. I thoroughly enjoyed the show even though, Duke was the only original member to be performing. I really wish I had the opportunity to hear Levi sing live while he was still doing shows. His voice will truly be missed. Check out the video below.
R.I.P. Levi!
