Jimmy Page Surprised By Negative Reviews of Performance with Leona Lewis

Legendary guitarist Jimmy Page has reportedly defended his performance with Leona Lewis at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Page doesn’t get why their performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” was criticized and called a low point of the closing ceremony, according to Contact Music. Page said:

“We got so much criticism and I really don’t know why. I think we did a great job - it was an honor to be there. People just need to be less cynical. You know we went out there, we only had ten minutes - what did people expect?”

Uh, maybe because it was like sacrilege to have Leona Lewis sing a classic rock song and her singing can’t compare to the original? Leona Lewis should’ve sang one of her hit songs and had Page do a guitar riff to that instead. I know I cringed when I heard Leona singing it - it just didn’t work for me.

However, Page said he wasn’t put off from doing another Olympics:

“If they asked, it would be an honor.”

Check out the video below to see what the song should sound like:
