Helen Mirren Dishes Controversial Comments About Date Rape

Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren has revealed some controversial thoughts on the subject of date rape which are receiving wide-spread criticism. The BBC News reports that Mirren told GQ that if a woman started out to have sex with a man but changed her mind right before, she didn’t think the woman “can have that man into court.” In the interview, Mirren opened up about being a date rape victim:

“I was [date-raped], yes. A couple of times. Not with excessive violence, or being hit, but rather being locked in a room and made to have sex against my will.”

She didn’t bother going to the police to report the crime because she explained “you couldn’t do that in those days.” She added:

“It’s such a tricky area, isn’t it? Especially if there is no violence. I mean, look at Mike Tyson. I don’t think he was a rapist.”

WTF? Is she seriously defending Mike Tyson too? How utterly disappointing!

Anyone has the right to change their mind! If they’re sexually assaulted, they have the right to report it to the police and hopefully the perpetrator will be punished.
