Heart: “Sarah Palin’s Views and Values In No Way Represent Us as American Women”

It looks like Heart members: Nancy Wilson and Ann Wilson are fuming over the use of their song “Barracuda” for Senator John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin. Nancy Wilson vented to Ew.com:
“I think it’s completely unfair to be so misrepresented. I feel completely f–ked over.”
They responded to the use of their song by issuing the following statement:
“The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission. We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored.
Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”
I don’t blame them for being pissed! People are now calling the Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah “Barracuda” Palin now. Disgusting.

Barracuda has been Sarah Palin’s nick name since High School. She gained the nickname on the basketball court. After reading the definition of barracuda (below) I don’t understand why you think it is disgusting unless you don’t like fish. I can understand it being wrong for a person in public office to be calling themself that. But disgusting?
1. any of several elongated, predaceous, tropical and subtropical marine fishes of the genus Sphyraena, certain species of which are used for food.
2. Slang. a treacherous, greedy person.
I think most people know the meaning of the word barracuda, but your dictionary reference skills are impressive. However, I think what they find disgusting is the fact that their song is being used to perpetuate her nickname, and now people will associate her nickname barracuda with the heart song, not some basketball nickname that nobody knows or cares about. Furthermore I think they’re offended by the Republicans use of the song. Since they’re a group of females and McCain did vote no on Fair Wages for Women, I could see how they wouldn’t agree with the politics even if he did pick a female VP to try and gain a few votes he wouldn’t otherwise get.
Since neither Ann or Nancy Wilson wrote the song, it’s a moot point what they think. As long as the ASCAP fees were paid, the Repubs had every right to play it.
