Madonna Plans to Adopt A Second Child from Malawi

Madonna is reportedly planning on adopting a second child from Malawi, according to Marie Claire (via Contact Music). Apparently, Madonna is said to be renewing efforts to adopt a little girl she met during her previous visit, however, Mercy James’ family are allegedly against her adoption.
It seems that the Material Girl is anxious to have a sister for her son David Banda who was also adopted from Malawi. Malawian adoption minister Penstone Kilembe told The Sun:
“Madonna’s representatives have been visiting the girl. The adoption is now advanced - all the government is waiting for is Madonna to forward the petition of adoption formalities. Then Mercy will be able to leave the country for a new life.”
The child has been living in an orphanage since her birth mother died during child-birth, however, other family members have been reportedly trying to block the adoption. Mercy James’ grandmother told reporters:
“When Mercy is no longer a baby we want her back. I do not want the money they said they’d give me.”
What a tough situation, knowing the little girl has family members living, but can’t care for her. Madonna probably has good intentions, but it’s tough thinking about taking her away from her birth country and known relatives who may still be able to visit her from time to time.
Let’s just hope Madonna doesn’t start bragging about how she saved another child’s life when the adoption goes through.
