Danny Glover Slams Hollywood Racism

Danny Glover is bummed because his movie project with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez never got off the ground, according to the New York Post Page Six. Glover believe his movie didn’t have a chance because of Hollywood’s racism.
Chavez only offered financing for half the film at $18 million and Glover was supposed to get the other half from a distributor, but poor Danny, no one in Hollywood showed any interest in a film about Haitian independence hero Toussaint L’Ouverture. Glover explained to a Paris film seminar:
“Producers said, It’s a nice project, a great project . . . where are the white heroes?’ ”
The Lethal Weapon actor was quoted by The Pan-African Newswire saying:
“I couldn’t get the money here. I couldn’t get the money in Britain. I went to everybody . . . The first question you get is, ‘Is it a black film?’ All of them agree, ‘It’s not going to do good in Europe, it’s not going to do good in Japan.’ Somebody has to prove that to be a lie.”
I’m not too sure why he’s so surprised - Hollywood films rarely show an African hero, but I’m guessing the real reason people didn’t want to fund this is because they didn’t want to be affiliated with Hugo Chavez. Poor Danny!
