American Idol 7 Top 4 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

American Idol’s top four finalists performed songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here’s a review of the songs they sang.
- David Cook - surprisingly his performance of “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran wasn’t too impressive. He should’ve picked a different song to make sound original. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a wow either.
- Syesha Mercado - I was scared for her when she said in the introduction video clip that she was doing Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.” What a bad choice for her! Tina Turner has a powerful, deep tone to her voice which is very different from Syesha’s. She should’ve chosen to do the Supremes instead because that would’ve been a better fit. She looked great during the performance though. I’m starting to sound like Paula Abdul now eh?
- Jason Castro - looked like he was having such a great time doing “I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley. It wasn’t as bad as Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell were making it sound. His performance wasn’t out of this world, but it was definitely okay to me.
- David Archuleta - sang “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King and it was the best performance so far.
- David Cook - I was a little worried in the beginning when he said he was performing “Baba O’Riley” by the legendary rockers The Who, but David didn’t disappoint. It was a great rendition that he should be proud of.
- Syesha Mercado - sang “A Change is Going to Come” by Sam Cook. It was better than the first song, but because it was a slower song, I’m not sure the viewers could really connect. It felt like she oversang some of the notes. The shocker was when Syesha started bawling her eyes out after Randy gave her feedback. Simon didn’t have the heart to agree with Randy and so he told her he agreed with Paula who gave her some compliments about her voice. It was hilarious how defensive Randy got when Ryan Seacrest started joking with him about being a buzzkill.
- Jason Castro - he started out so well with “Mr. Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan but then he forgot a few lines and that just ruined the performance. Simon told him to pack his bags. Poor guy - he really took a beating from the judges tonight!
- David Archuleta - closed the show with “Love Me Tender” by Elvis Presley. It was nice and sincere. I disagree with Simon’s statement that he not only beat the competition, he crushed them tonight. He did a great job tonight, but it wasn’t as superb as the judges tried to make it out to be. At least his daddy was probably happy.
Favorite tonight: David Archuleta
Prediction of who will get the boot: Jason Castro (However, I’d prefer it were Syesha Mercado. I actually like Syesha but I wasn’t crazy about her performances tonight.)
