Chris Cornell Billie Jean Single Benefits from Boost in Sales
photo courtesy of PR Photos/www.prphotos.comChris Cornell may want to thank American Idol contestant David Cook for copying his cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” as his sales have increased by 300 per cent since David performed it last week.
Cornell, formerly with Soundgarden and Audioslave recorded his rendition for his 2007 album. Cornell said:
“You can clearly see that the judges are giving this guy credit for it on national television. My fans were like, ‘Wait a minute! That’s Chris Cornell’s moment.’ Don’t get me wrong. He sang it great. But it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with. At the end of the day, it’s all good. It’s a good thing for me. There was a moment when I was sitting there writing this new arrangement thinking, `Is this a good idea or a bad idea?’ Watching the response from the judges was really gratifying. They were signing off on it right there.”
Yeah, that must’ve sucked to see David Cook get praise for his originality when it wasn’t his cover. David did a good job copying his copy though eh? And at least Cornell is reaping some benefits with a boost in sales. You can see watch Chris Cornell performing it below and he rocks!
