Van Morrison reportedly banned the sale of alcohol as well as cellphone use during his show in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. He was greeted with a chorus of cheers for his rare live appearance which drew a large crowd, but he grew quickly impatient when he saw someone in the audience on a cell phone. He said:

“We’d like to do the next album. If someone turns off that mobile phone we can start it.”

Some fans left disappointed because the bars were closed during his performance at the venue according to NME.com. Not surprising that cameras and recording equipment were not allowed as well.

While some fans were probably pissed that they couldn’t drink and get a little rowdy during his show, I don’t really blame the guy for banning alcohol. He’s probably had some bad experiences where people were acting very obnoxious. I wholeheartedly agree with being annoyed by use of cellphones during the show - it’s just rude.
