American Idol Top 8 Guys Review and Prediction

American Idol’s Top 8 guys performed to songs from the 80s. While some performances were good, most were not.

  • Luke Menard, Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” matched his voice, but he sounded nasally again. While I find him easy on the eyes, his movement was very awkward and stiff. I noticed it last week too, but I was thinking maybe he was just moving that way because of the song he chose. The song is a fun one but his performance was just a bit on the weird side.
  • David Archuleta, not a perfect performance to “Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Collins, but it wasn’t horrible. He’s still lovable though. I know, I just can’t help it. He’s like a puppy.
  • Danny Noriega, absolutely dreadful. I was rooting for him because I liked his attitude before tonight, however, he murdered the song “Tainted Love” - it was disgusting. His performance was so unnatural as well - I think he tries too hard to be different.
  • David Hernandez, okay job for singing a song I detest. I’m glad he didn’t get kicked off the show for his stripping scandal.
  • Michael Johns, wasn’t too exciting tonight again. He picked a great song to do though. I’ve always loved “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds. He did an adequate job with it, but it was far from what he’s capable of (I think).
  • David Cook, interesting version of “Hello” by Lionel Richie. David did a pretty good job with the song that I’m not crazy about, but he has a great voice and “made it his own” as the judges like to say.
  • Jason Castro, beautiful performance of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. I was pleasantly surprised by that.
  • Chikezie Ezie, great voice. Simon made a big deal about asking him if the song was done by Whitney Houston before, but it was most recently done by Luther Vandross (at least I think it was) and said it was a bad choice. Even though I don’t really like that song, I thought he sang it pretty well. It was a decent performance.

What was kind of funny was Paula Abdul tonight though. She just wouldn’t stop talking when giving her feedback. She doesn’t often make much sense when she talks, but tonight it was really embarrassing. It seems as though she was on some medication though but it was too bad Randy and Simon couldn’t control her by cutting her off.

My faves from tonight: Jason Castro and David Cook

My prediction for the two getting the boot: Luke Menard and Danny Noriega
