NAACP Awards Show Aretha Franklin Some R-E-S-P-E-C-T
photo courtesy of PR Photos/www.prphotos.comAretha Franklin had the opportunity to get some real R-E-S-P-E-C-T at tonight’s 39th NAACP Image Awards. As mentioned earlier, she felt snubbed when Beyoncé introduced Tina Turner as “the Queen” at Sunday’s Grammy Awards because everyone knows that title belongs to Aretha. However, Aretha has said she’s ready to make nice with Beyoncé though.
Aretha was one of three entertainers to receive special awards. The other two awards went to Stevie Wonder and Rubee Dee. Aretha received the Vanguard Award for being someone whose work “increases our understanding and awareness of racial and social issues.” I hope Aretha was feeling the love tonight on Valentine’s Day. Congrats to the Queen of Soul and Happy Valentine’s to everyone.
