Edison Chen, a famous Chinese-Canadian Hong Kong movie actor and hip-hop singer has reportedly apologized for the sex photo scandal in China and promised to suspend his career in entertainment. After 1,300 explicit pictures which were taken by Chen were put on the internet, including at least six women celebrities, several people have been arrested. Chen said in a news conference that he was “deeply saddened” and wanted to “apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused”. He then announced he would end his career in entertainment “indefinitely”.

Chen appeared in the Infernal Affairs trilogy which was later made into the Hollywood film The Departed as well as The Grudge 2 with Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The police in Hong Kong believe the photos were uploaded by staff at a computer repair shop where Chen took his laptop. Chen has admitted to helping the police investigation and thinks it’s too late to save his career so he will focus on volunteering and charity work now. He said:

“I have decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and search my soul.”

Pornography is officially banned in China and the internet is restricted and closely monitored by the government. Yikes!

I don’t know why it’s too late to save his career though. He should move to Hollywood where people with sex scandals often get more famous. Well, even those who were never famous but had sex scandals benefited greatly…just ask Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.

You are not understanding the culture there. It is by doing this self effacing dance of self-immolation that he has a chance of having a career.
