American Idol Top 12 Girls Review and Prediction

It was the night for American Idol’s Top 12 Girls and overall, I didn’t feel they were as strong as the guys performance. I think the main problem was that most of the girls sang such boring songs. The 60s are filled with a lot of great music and why they chose these particular songs is beyond me. Here’s a review in the order of their performance:

  • Kristy Lee Cook, very stiff, nothing special. However, she said she had bronchitis so perhaps that’s why she didn’t move around very well and her voice was so ick.
  • Joanne Borgella, surprisingly bad. She’s the plus-sized model that I was so happy to see make it. I’m not sure what happened, but her performance was kinda weak. In past performances, she has shown to have a great voice, but tonight, ew.
  • Alaina Whitaker, reminds me of a blonde Miley Cyrus. I’m sure a lot of young kids would’ve appreciated her performance because she sings well for being 16, but it was just okay for me. The judges seemed to love her.
  • Amanda Overmyer, rocked! I loved her performance because I think she’s a true artist.
  • Amy Davis, notes seemed too big for her. She’s pretty but that’s about it.
  • Brooke White, reminds me of Carly Simon minus the vocals. I thought her performance was mediocre, but she wasn’t bad.
  • Alexandrea Lushington, beautiful voice and face and only 17 years old. Simon didn’t seem to get it though, but I thought she was pretty good.
  • Kady Malloy, weird performance as some notes sounded a bit off. I think she does a lot better impersonating Britney Spears. Perhaps if she gets cut early, she can always get a job doing that. Maybe it was just the wrong song though.
  • Asia’h Epperson, great raspy, soulful voice. She performed well tonight, but for some reason, I didn’t like when she sang the word “heart” in the song she sang. I think she’s a pretty strong young woman to be going through this having just lost her father recently though.
  • Ramiele Malubay, strong voice, boring song. I like her a lot though.
  • Syesha Mercado, consistently great. I enjoy watching her perform. She seems to have a good vibe.
  • Carly Smithson, exceptional singer, but seemed like she was shouting during her performance. Paula and Randy seemed to think her performance was the best of the night, but failed to impress Simon. I’m impressed that she can sing so well having bronchitis though - she definitely slammed Kristy Lee Cook’s excuse for being sick and performing that way.

My faves tonight: Amanda Overmyer, Syesha Mercado, Ramiele Malubay, and Asia’h Epperson

My prediction for the two getting the boot: Amy Davis and Brooke White
