Celebrities Will Not Attend Golden Globes?
photo courtesy of PR Photos/www.prphotos.comOn Friday, NBC announced that despite the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, the Golden Globes will go on next Sunday as scheduled. Unfortunately, no celebrities will be attending according to Us Weekly. NBC spokewoman, Rebecca Marks said:
“We are prepared to move forward with the telecast on Jan. 13.”
However, the Screen Actors Guild announced that its members, including stars such as Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, and Keira Knightley have already said they will show support for the union writers by boycotting the show. SAG president Alan Rosenberg said:
“There appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross.”
Apparently, the Writers Guild of America previously refused to grant a waiver to allow its members to work on the Golden Globes, the People’s Choice Awards and the Academy Awards. I’m not sure why the network wants to go ahead with the scheduled awards when the ratings are sure to be low. The only reason people watch it is to see the celebrities receive awards. Otherwise, we could wait until the next day to read in the news who was on the list to receive.
