CNN has reported that the Florida teacher, Debra Lafave, who was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old student was arrested on Tuesday for “inappropriate but non-sexual contact” with a teenage coworker. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that she violated the terms of Lafave’s probation, which banned her from having any contact with minors (anyone under 18).

After Lafave plead guilty in November 2005 for sex with the boy in her class, she was sentenced to three years under house arrest and given seven years of probation. The new arrest took place on Tuesday after probation officers interviewed a 17-year-old girl who worked with Lafave at a restaurant (which is where she has been employed for almost two years).

The 17-year-old co-worker revealed to the officers that they discussed “non-work related issues such as family problems, friends, high school, personal life, boyfriend issues and sexual issues in both private one-on-one conversations” as well as group settings.

What a bizarre case! Why on earth would correction officers and the judge allow for her to work in a restaurant where she would obviously come into some contact with people under the age of 18? Duh! And given the fact that Lafave was ordered to have no contact with any minors, why would she then risk going to jail again by striking up a friendship with a teenager? Wacky stuff goin on in Florida! Lafave just can’t stay away from the jail bait eh?
