Lewis Hamilton got busted for speeding in France as police reportedly clocked him doing 123mph in an 80mph zone, according to the Daily Mail! Yikes! It sounds like Mr. Speedy can’t turn off the racing when he’s not on the track eh?

Apparently, the officers chased the Formula One driver while speeding in his Mercedes CLK. When he was pulled over, they handed him a £430 fine, gave him a one month ban from driving, and impounded his sports car. He was then driven to a hotel in Laon, north east of Paris where a friend picked him up who said:

“He was not driving erratically, but he was considerably over the legal speed limit. He stopped straight away when we waved him down, and he was very polite and courteous. He paid his fine and agreed to hand his car over to police.”

A rep for McLaren, the team Hamilton races for, insisted that this wouldn’t affect his racing career. However, police took away his license and will hold it until the ban is over. I didn’t know the French police could do that with regards to a UK license, but good for them!

The weird thing is that Hamilton may still drive in Britain during his ban, as long as he informs the DVLA that the French police are holding his driver’s license. Strange eh? If he had been driving at that speed elsewhere, he might’ve been arrested instead. Maybe Mr. Speedy should go back to driving school to learn how to drive slower amongst the common people.
