Portia De Rossi Worried About Being Typecast?
photo courtesy of PR Photos/www.prphotos.comPortia De Rossi recently revealed that she almost turned down her Nip/Tuck role because she was worried about being typecast as a lesbian. Because Portia’s relationship with Ellen DeGeneres may cause her to be overlooked for straight roles. She said:
“My relationship with Ellen is so public, and I thought, ‘Am I going to play a romantic lead again?’ I had that one moment of, ‘Does this mean I’ll be typecast as a lesbian?’ And Ellen turned to me and said, ‘So what?’ And I thought, ‘Oh yeah, right, so what?’ I was offered [heterosexual] romantic lead roles, and I turned them down because the lesbian seemed more interesting to me.”
Shouldn’t she just worry about getting good roles vs. gay or straight roles?
I wonder if her comments about her relationship with Ellen being so public stem from some trouble at home. Hmmm. There were rumors that Portia was going to leave Ellen, but it looks like they’re sticking together.
