Robert Redford Debated on Whether to Shake Bush’s Hand

Robert Redford was on the fence about receiving his 2005 Kennedy Center Honor from President Bush, but only agreed after he was assured it was a recognition “above politics”. He decided to do this for his family, but admitted:

“It was tough, but you have to shake his hand. You go through the motions because everybody’s taking the high road. I was assured beforehand that this was an honor above politics, and I said, ‘If that’s the case, OK, I’ll have to bite it.’ It really was about my family and giving my kids and especially my grandkids a chance to see, firsthand, how a place like the White House operates.”

I still love Robert Redford. I just hope he washed his hands though. I would hate to think he got cooties from the incident.

If you don’t want to shae the president’s hand, don’t accept the dang award. I mean even if hated, it’s still the leader of the country, geesh, ego is a terrible thing.
