Ben Affleck still thinks that his relationship with Jennifer Lopez caused damage to his career as an actor. In Details magazine, he blames the media coverage for overshadowing his appearances on the silver screen. Regarding his ex-girlfriend:

“It was probably bad for my career”.

He explains:

“What happens is this sort of bleed-over from the tabloids across your movie work. You go to a movie, you only go once. But the tabloids and internet are everywhere. You can really subsume the public image of somebody.”

Although he is now directing a film to revamp his career, he says the failure of some of his past films and the relationship put him in a difficult position. He says of his film, “Gone Baby Gone”:

“I feel like this film is a linchpin for my life, my career. I have a lot riding on it. I want [the film] to work. Badly. I mean, a ****** movie comes out on 2,800 screens? I’ve been there and it’s embarrassing.”

He prefers directing and says:

“That’s why there’s something really great about directing - about having authorship over something. If you don’t like this movie, I’m the guy to see. I’m the guy to criticize. I take some measure of comfort in that. It’s fair, at least.”

Well best of luck to him. I think he’s right about his career going down the tubes after he got involved with Jennifer Lopez. But he can’t really blame her. He picked some awful films to be part of.
