Did Whoopi Make a Big Whoops on The View?

Today was Whoopi Goldberg’s first day moderating The View and was only into the show 15 minutes when she brought up Michael Vick’s dogfighting conviction charges. She reportedly said:
“You know from his background this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from. There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country.”
A shocked Joy Behar asked:
“How about dog torture and dog murdering?”
Whoopi answered:
“Unfortunately it’s part of the thing. You’re a dog lover. For a lot of people dogs are sport.”
Behar looked like she was shaking her head in disgust. Goldberg explained that it took a while for Vick to realize that the charges against him were serious.
“It seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized that this was something the entire country really didn’t appreciate, didn’t like.”
Whoopi added if the case had involved somebody from New York City her feelings would have been different and that Vick was raised in the South. She claimed:
“This is part of his cultural upbringing.”
Whoopi apparently continued to defend Vick:
“This is a kid who comes from a culture when this is not questioned.”
OMG, I can’t believe she started out her job by defending Vick! I had a lot of respect for her too. Whether or not dog fighting was common practice in the South before or even now does not make it right! Racial hate crimes were common practice in the South too before and people made changes because these acts were evil. C’mon Whoopi, think about what you’re saying! Animal abuse is not acceptable to me and I lived in the South growing up too.

5 babblicious comments:
I have no respect for whoppi after her blase’attitude concerning dog fights and” oh well he was brought up in the south”.well “missy” i hope all the dog lovers unite and turn their faces away from the likes of you. As for vick I hope that he never sees a red cent from any of his ventures, nor a contract in any way shape or manner. This is supposed to be a fine young man? Not in this life time.as to whoopi, are you aware how these dogs are trained for fighting until the kill? It is horrific! stray dogs, puppies, cats are used as bate for them to aquire blood lust. They are starved & given no water until their minds have left them. I have rescued a staffordshire (who is now 16 yrs old and a american pittbull terrier who was one of 13 pups being slammed to the ground from the roof of a drug house.
That was a stupid racist comment. Its not okay for dogs to be used in dog fights. All a dog needs is to be love and taken care of. I use to like her but that did it for me.
You know what also comes from that part of the country? slavery. Guessing Whoopi is for that too since since it’s ok considering what part of the country it comes from.
As one raised and living in the south, I am offended by these obviously narrow-minded and stereotypical comments made by Whoopi. For future reference, dog-fighting is not a part of every child’s upbringing (in fact, not in the majority) and is indeed questioned by many. It’s not as though we all hate dogs and our sole purpose for having them is to have them tear at one another’s throats. We love animals as well.
Whoopi has the guts to actually tell the truth. If no one will say it, who will? The American culture is the only mainstream culture that views dogs this way. I mean, Americans eat cows. Other parts of the world don’t eat cows, but see them as holy animals. It really depends where you come from, and that is what I see Whoopi spelling out. She is just telling you guys that different people have different upbringings, culturally influenced.
